The PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL) allows you to fly Airplanes recreationally, either alone, or with Friends & Family (non-fare-paying passengers).
Your PPL allows you to fly a Canadian Registered airplane, anywhere in the world!
There is no limit to the number of passengers (limited by aircraft seats, weight, etc.)
You can add RATINGS to your Private Pilot Licence, which will then allow you to conduct flights at night, in clouds, with more than one engine, "over-the-top" of clouds, and advanced aircraft and operations.
This is the FIRST STEP toward a Career in Aviation and is a requirement to enroll in a Commercial Pilot Training Program.
In order to qualify for a PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL), you must achieve the following:
1. A minimum of 45 hours of Flight Training, including:
A minimum of 17 hours of Dual Instruction, including:
A minimum of 3 hours of Cross-Country Dual Instruction.
2. A minimum of 12 hours of Solo Flying, including:
A minimum of 5 hours of Solo Cross-Country Flying.
3. A minimum of 40 hours of Ground School, including Instruction in:
Radio Operator's Certificate
4. You must pass the Transport Canada Private Pilot Written Examination.
5. You must be recommended by a Flying Instructor for a Flight Examination.
6. You must pass the Transport Canada Private Pilot Flight Examination.
(You will need to purchase a Student Pilot Flight Kit, which includes all of the training
resources and navigation / planning tools required to complete your Ground and Air training exercises.)
Ground School is where we learn the theory and information required to conduct safe and efficient flying as a Pilot, and to prepare you for your written examinations.
Ground School is conducted primarily ONLINE, with WEEKLY LIVE TRAINING SESSIONS (in-person or online) provided by one of our certified Flying Instructors. You can choose to attend the video training sessions, or you may choose to complete your Ground School by yourself, in a self-paced home study format, or any mix of group sessions and self-study.
The topics that will be covered in Ground School are:
Theory of Flight
Airframes, Engines & Systems
Radio & Electronic Theory
Pilot Decision Making
Each Private Pilot Student is able to determine their own pace, so that your Pilot Training fits your schedule and your financial plan.
A Private Pilot Licence can be achieved in as little as 5 to 6 weeks, if you are able to engage in your training on a "full-time" basis, studying and flying 5 to 7 days per week.
If you choose to train on a "part-time" schedule, say maybe 3 times per week, you can expect the program to take you around 5 months to complete.
The Total Cost of your Private Pilot Training Program will depend on how consistently you fly and study the training material. The longer the period between training sessions, the more "ground" you will have to catch up, in terms of relearning some of the information, and re-developing your skills. Piloting is a "perishable" skillset, and in order to get the best "bang for your buck", we recommend flying as often as you can each week. Having said that, we are able to accommodate whatever training rhythm you choose.
This is YOUR experience, and we want you to ENJOY IT!
If you are able to acquire the skills and knowledge in the minimum required hours, you should anticipate a total cost in the area of $12,500 CAD.
If you are closer to the national average, you should budget around $17,000 CAD.
We will do our best to advise & support you along the way, so that you can optimize your training experience.
All of our Pilot Training Programs are on a "Pay Before You Fly" model, which allows us to keep our rates as competitive as possible, while we provide a Superior Pilot Training Experience.
Each student enrolling in our PRIVATE PILOT PROGRAM is required to make a $2500 DEPOSIT in advance of the first flight.
(NOTE: You can always book a DISCOVERY FLIGHT first, for $250, to make sure that you this is for you, prior to starting your Private Pilot Training. Your Discovery Flight Time will still count towards your licence!)
Each training session will then be deducted from your deposit, after the training session.
We will advise you when your deposit balance falls below $500, and we will need you to make another $2500 DEPOSIT prior to flying again, once your balance falls below $250.
NOTE: YOUR DEPOSIT IS FULLY REFUNDABLE!
If you should choose to pause or discontinue your training, just send us an email requesting the refund of your remaining deposit balance. We will provide your refund within 14 days of receiving your request, less the amount of all goods and services already provided by Aurora.
Depending on your frequency of training, and how quickly you develop your skillset to pass your written exam and flight test, you should expect to make between 5 and 8 $2500 Deposits over the course of your PRIVATE PILOT TRAINING.
If you make your deposits $5000, instead of $2500, we will give you a 2% DISCOUNT on the training and goods paid for by your $5000 DEPOSIT!
If you make your deposits $10,000, we will give you a 4% DISCOUNT on the training and goods paid for by your $10,000 DEPOSIT!
This is the best way to maximize the value of your flight training dollars, and ensures that you always have sufficient funds on deposit to keep flying!
